At the end of last year, I was deep into one of my usual Spotify rabbit holes, just browsing new music, when I stumbled across Leon Thomas. Little did I know, this was the same Leon from Nickelodeon’s Victorious. Yes, Andre the Musician! My jaw dropped.
But let me tell you something—the man has evolved. And I mean evolved. I found myself listening to his album MUTT front to back, back to front, then again... and again. It’s safe to say:R&B is officially back.
I’ve reached a point in my music journey where the rap and trap music I grew up on doesn’t always hit the same. And as much as I love a good turn-up track, I’ve been craving something with depth—something I can feel. Modern R&B lately has felt like it’s been trying to keep up with rap instead of embracing its own soul.
But Leon Thomas? He’s bringing back:
The crooning, the emotion, the storytelling.
The soulful grit that reminds me of when my auntie would play Maxwell, D’Angelo, and Musiq Soulchild while cleaning the house on Sunday.
The vulnerability that’s been missing from the boys of R&B lately. I miss when men begged on records. I said what I said.
I actually called a friend and said, “This boy BETTER get a Grammy this year.” I’m so serious. I’m tired of Drake being the only one pulling on the emotional strings of women through song. Leon is in his bag. Period.

Also, South Florida... We Missed Out 😩
Just when I thought I couldn’t stan any harder, Leon announced a show in South Florida—and y’all... it sold out before I could even hit confirm on my checkout cart. I’m genuinely sick about it. So if you got tickets, I’m jealous. If you didn’t, join me in praying for a second leg of the tour.
Final Thoughts:
Leon Thomas is the one. He’s not just a former child star who can sing—he’s a fully formed, soulful, genre-blending artist who's putting real feeling back into the music.
So to whoever’s sitting on the GRAMMY Board...Act right. Give this man his flowers. Give my boy a GRAMMY.
And for the rest of y’all? Go hit play.Let me know what your favorite Leon track is in the comments or DM me your recs—I'm always building a new playlist.
Until next time,– Mo’
